Dear Friends of the Network:

Both Raymond and Stephen Lee were in Chicago last weekend for the Conference Planning Team meeting. Stephen was accompanied by his family. See updates below regarding the Hurricanes.

Peace,
Dan

25 September 2005 -

Hey Dan,

I was nice to speak to you by phone yesterday. I am glad to know the move to
the new office went smoothly.

Here is a Hurricane Update.

A nine foot storm surge from Hurricane Rita caused massive flooding in every southern Terrebonne Parish Bayou community. The water, witch is still rising, overflowed bayous, topped drainage levees and breached at least five levees in Terrebonne Parish. Chabert Medical Center, the state charity hospital for a 10 parish region, has evacuated all of its patients and will remain closed until further notice. This is the only place in this part of Louisiana that provided HIV/AIDS care. The hospital had experienced an influx. of patients who had evacuated from New Orleans. We hope and pray that the hospital will be open soon.

The good news is that everyone is fine. Dawn and Onita who evacuated yet again are safe and sound and at home. My Mother's area is blocked off with yellow police tape, so we are unable to conduct a damage assessment. We are in the Northern Part of the Parish,

Please Pray for Our Bayou Community.

I hope that We will not have rain in DC.

BLESSINGS!

Raymond

Hello Dan,
Here we go again, we have all moved to higher ground in Terrebonne Parish. Stephen (Lee) and his family are in Atlanta. Will keep you posted.

Be Blessed.

Raymond (Jasper)

Hello everyone,

Sorry for the mass email, but I wanted to let all of you know that I am safely out of Rita's path and in Brownsville, Texas with Joanna, Jaime, and Julian. All things considered, we had a lucky trip down. It was a 10 hour drive, but we tried to stay on back roads which kept the traffic smooth and gave us plenty of gas stations. Because it took us three hours to go 6 miles through Sugarland, once we crossed the Brazos river we choose to drive directly through the originial path of the storm, Matagorda, Palicios, etc. in order to get here before we ran out of gas on the highway. We survived on water, slim jims, and trail mix for our meals. We couldn't leave until Thursday morning because we stayed at Catholic Charities Wednesday in order to serve the Katrina evacuees who were coming to us for gas and cash to get out of town.

My family decided to stay in Houston and ride out the storm. After spending the last month serving clients from New Orleans, I just coulnd't physically or emotionally stay there. Now that the path has turned, we hope that they will be okay. Please keep Dean and the Beaumont Catholic Charities folks in your prayers as the path seems headed closer to them than us right now.

Here's the updates of where I know that people are:

For Catholic Charities & NCAN--

Rosemarie, Rhonda, Yvette, Mickey, and Bob are all planning to ride out the storm in Houston. Melissa Simon took Bill Tracy, our loaned staff from CC in Seattle, to her house in Cypress to rdie it out. Julissa and Carolyn from New Orleans Catholic Charities left in a van for Dallas yesterday morning. I don't know how far they got. Joe Rubio is in Austin. Danna from Catholic Charities in New Orleans tried to get to Austin, but after three hours and only going a few miles, they turned back and plan to ride out the storm in Houston--I think they had a hotel room. Ray and Lola Davis hoped to make it to Louisiana, but I don't know what their progress was.

If any of you know where our other friends and neighbors are, let me know, I am praying for everyone and hope that all are safe and protected. Thank you to everyone who called to support us or offer help on the way. Thank you to those who couldn't get through the phone lines, but prayed anyway. Keep those prayers coming for all affected by the Hurricanes.

Peace and God Bless-
Jen Carr
