The three men on this panel were sentenced to die by incarceration at a maximum security prison in the high desert of California. Each served more than 20 years in prison and was originally sentenced to life without possibility of parole. Still all three of these men pushed themselves to enroll in the first face to face bachelor's degree program for incarcerated students in the state of California. They pursued education as the path toward rehabilitation and transformation, ultimately changing the trajectory of their lives. Join and hear how education changed them and their families. Together we will explore how college access and success leaders can all work together to improve the education of our communities and move away from mass incarceration. We thank Ascendium Education Group for their support, which made this webinar possible. Presenters: - Dara Yin, Program Specialist at API RISE, the Lead Navigator for the Bridge Academy Movement at Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory, and the Executive Director of Street Cred Education Consultants
- Lee Gibson, Community Advocacy Manager, Inside Justice
- Allen Burnett, Co-founder and Executive Director, The Prism Way
- Taffany Lim, Deputy Director, Prison Education Program, University of California, Los Angeles
