Last fall, former first lady Michelle Obama launched a book tour for her memoir, “Becoming.” In the book, Mrs. Obama discusses her days as a first generation, low-income college student.

Thanks to the generous folks at Reach Higher, NCAN received tickets to several book tour stops, which we were able to share with some of our member organizations. Our members and their students were ecstatic for the opportunity to see Michelle Obama tell her story.

Bottom Line Boston students and staff attended Mrs. Obama's event on Nov 25.

Students served by Philadelphia Futures were able to attend Mrs. Obama's stop in Philadelphia on Nov. 29.

The Denver Scholarship Foundation and University of Colorado Denver's Center for Pre-Collegiate & Academic Outreach Programs both sent students to watch Mrs. Obama speak in Denver on Dec. 13.

Academic Success Program and the Commit Partnership had students attend Obama’s event in Dallas on Dec. 17.

Thank you again to Reach Higher for providing some of our member-served students with a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

In the words of Paul Hays, managing director of programs at Bottom Line Boston: "Our students strengthen through the accumulation of powerful experiences. Who we are is the result of the events in our lives leading up to today. Learning-events only occur when the adults and peers we share life’s journey with provide experiences through deliberate and caring action."
