Several sessions focused on Equity and Opportunity, including the pre-conference workshop Beyond Diversity, Making Racial Equity Real, presented by Dennis Chin from the Center for Social Inclusion. We are also offering concurrent sessions specifically addressing working with young men of color on postsecondary access and success.
Connecting College and Career Success is top-of-mind for many NCAN members working to help students make purposeful connections between their course of study, postsecondary choices, and career interests and goals. At the pre-conference workshop Connecting College and Career Success: Implementing and Managing Services to Students, attendees can learn from NCAN members who have successfully incorporated this work into their programming. This workshop will complement the myriad related concurrent sessions, as well as a plenary session exploring how students benefit by making these concrete connections.
If these aren’t reasons enough to think about attending the NCAN conference this year, here are a few more:
Wes Moore, CEO of the Robin Hood Foundation will talk about his personal and professional experiences supporting low-income students in their pursuit of postsecondary education.
A screening of Show Me Democracy, a feature-length documentary about how seven St. Louis college students evolved into activists as they demanded change through policy and protest.
The Success Gallery and Reception that gives attendees a chance to learn how presenters have integrated career exploration and advising programming into their organizations.
And then of course there’s beautiful San Diego, with the lively Gaslamp Quarter, beautiful sunsets, and exquisite seascapes. What could be better than combining a premiere professional development opportunity, networking with friends and colleagues, and a lovely setting? Registration and other conference information is available now – we hope to see you in California in less than two months.
