Date: November 6 Description: The three men on this panel were sentenced to die by incarceration at a maximum security prison in the high desert of California. Each served more than 20 years in prison and was originally sentenced to life without possibility of parole. Still all three of these men pushed themselves to enroll in the first face to face bachelor's degree program for incarcerated students in the state of California. They pursued education as the path toward rehabilitation and transformation, ultimately changing the trajectory of their lives.
Join and hear how education changed them and their families. Together we will explore how college access and success leaders can all work together to improve the education of our communities and move away from mass incarceration.
We thank Ascendium Education Group for their support, which made this webinar possible.

Which 18-Year-Olds Didn’t Enter College in Fall 2024?
Date: December 2 Description: College enrollment rates for young people had been trending down over the last five years but saw a modest bounce back in the 2023-24 academic year. The 2024 FAFSA fiasco may disrupt that positive momentum
and return us to pandemic-era declines. This downward trend disproportionately affects students of color and students from families with limited incomes who are a rising share of high school students. With the 2025-26 FAFSA opening December 1,
the stakes are high to improve upon last year’s experience for students.
NCAN has commissioned new data from the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center to better understand where, and even whether, students matriculated this
fall. Join this briefing to understand the overall enrollment change as well as changes by institutional sector, student race/ethnicity, and neighborhood income. We will also detail enrollment changes by a student’s home state, juxtaposed with
FAFSA completion data for the high school class of 2024.
