Earlier today, NCAN was awarded the Robert P. Huff Golden Quill Award at the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators’ (NASFAA) national conference in Orlando, FL. The award recognizes an organization or individual for their contributions to the literature on student financial aid.
"Nominees for the award are judged on the basis of published work which exemplifies the highest quality of research methodology, analysis, or topical writing on the subject of student financial aid or its administration," according to the NASFAA website.
Carrie Warick, NCAN's director of policy and advocacy, accepted the award from Lori Vedder, NASFAA's national chair.
NCAN was nominated for its overall body of work, but during the awards ceremony, Vedder highlighted several of NCAN's recent reports and advocacy/education campaigns focused on financial aid in particular:
A 2018 report analyzing the relationship between school district poverty and FAFSA completion.
A 2019 report on the affordability of four-year public institutions for the average Pell Grant recipient.
2017: Dr. Nicholas Hillman – For his research on the relationship between financial aid and educational opportunity, particularly for underrepresented students.
2016: Dr. Stephen DesJardins – For his ongoing, rigorous research on student financial aid.
2015: Dr. Jacob Gross – For his ongoing work as editor of the Journal of Student Financial Aid and his multiple research studies and policy analysis.
2014: Dr. William Boyle – For his ongoing research to better understand both higher education politics and policy.
