By Zenia Henderson, Director of Member & Partner Engagement
As we begin to reflect on this season of harvest and gratitude and look ahead to 2022, we want to thank you, our members, for finding value in your NCAN membership.
We appreciate the committed and innovative ways you showed up for students and families, your peers and colleagues, and your communities this year. We know that you continue to do so without even thinking twice. We feel honored to have been part of your
journey in this work and we value the trust you have put in us to help guide you and your students along the way.
In our annual member satisfaction survey, conducted in May 2021 (146 respondents), we found that 86% of NCAN members agree or strongly agree that NCAN membership helps them do their job better. We also learned that more than 50% of NCAN members say they
increased their use of member services compared to the same time last year.
We knew what was important to you and did our very best to respond with timely and relevant tools and resources related to pivoting services, leveraging technology, elevating students’ voices, advocating for policy changes, and addressing racial inequities
in postsecondary attainment. Here’s what some members had to say about NCAN’s resources:
The resources have kept me abreast of the constantly changing college access landscape so I can continue to advise students in a current and relevant climate.
The FAFSA Tracker is immensely helpful in our FAFSA Initiative. Weekly Success Digest keeps us in the loop.
They have helped me be more effective at my job and strengthened my network of peers across the country.
They help me stay up to date with the most recent data and news surrounding college attainment efforts. It is also useful to hear what other organizations do and how that could or could not work for my own organization.
We’ve also had the opportunity to come along for the personal side of this journey with you. We have gathered virtually to share our pain points and promising practices through peer exchanges, monthly Advisory Task Force meetings, Virtual Advocacy Weeks,
and our Spring Institute series. Survey respondents also rated these resources as valuable, and we look forward to improving these experiences for you.
As we dive into the next calendar year, you can expect NCAN to continue elevating issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion in our field. We’ll share innovative ways (and maybe even remind you of some traditional ways) to re-engage students who are opting
out, stopping out, or bowing out because we believe in never giving up on them.
You can also look forward to experiencing our webinars on a more familiar and interactive platform to help increase your engagement with presenters and peers because we believe you deserve more opportunities to feel connected.
Overall, our goal is to continue providing meaningful professional and personal growth opportunities for our NCAN members. We know your time is valuable and should be well spent when you choose to spend it with us.
