After a national search, NCAN is pleased to welcome our new chief of staff, Nancy Washington, SHRM-CP, beginning on Jan. 3. Most recently, Nancy has served as interim executive director and managing
director of people and operations at City Year Washington, D.C., which supports AmeriCorps members to serve as student success coaches in 21 D.C. public high schools.
"As NCAN’s new chief of staff, Nancy will help us better implement and track our strategic plan and improve our human resources and talent development functions," said NCAN CEO Kim Cook. "She will be a major new asset for our staff and members and an
important contributor to NCAN’s growth."
Nancy has a career-long focus on education and youth development as well as lived experience as a first-generation Haitian-American and first-generation college graduate. Prior to City Year, Nancy was the internships coordinator for District of Columbia
Public Schools, where she managed the recruitment, selection, and onboarding of more than 100 diverse interns each year. She also worked for five years at Urban Alliance, which provides job skills training and paid internships to high school students.
She began her career as a dual-licensed regular and special education teacher for the New York Board of Education.
Nancy holds an undergraduate degree in developmental psychology from the University of Massachusetts Boston and a master’s in education from Queens College. She is a Society of Human Resources Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) and also has earned
a certificate in mediation, workforce development, and continuing education from Prince George’s (MD) Community College.
