The National College Attainment Network (NCAN) is proud to have presented the winners of our 2023 Awards of Excellence at this year's National Conference, held October 16-18 in Dallas, TX. These awards recognize excellence among college attainment professionals, organizations, and partners as evidenced by successful student outcomes and we are excited to announce this year’s award winners.

This year’s Member of the Year Award of Excellence went to CollegeBound Foundation, an organization that empowers Baltimore (MD) City Schools’ students to successfully pursue and complete a college degree or other postsecondary options! Through advising, financial guidance, scholarships, and other resources, the organization serves as an advocate for city-wide college access, retention, and graduation. This award recognizes the work of CollegeBound as an NCAN member organization that fulfills NCAN’s mission of building, strengthening, and empowering communities and stakeholders to close equity gaps in postsecondary attainment for all students.

The Dr. David B. Swedlow Professional of the Year Award of Excellence was awarded to the Assistant Vice President of College, Career, and Teen Services at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee (WI) Graduation Plus College Access & Success Program, Andre X Douglas! This award, named in honor of Dr. David B. Swedlow, a practitioner who dedicated his life’s work to helping students gain access to college, recognizes the dedication, hard work, and innovation of an individual working at an NCAN member organization. Douglas is known as a “Champion for Students,” and has positively impacted hundreds of young people’s lives as he continues to teach, support, and strategically meet every student where they are to get them where they need to be.

We were excited to award this year's Partner of the Year Award of Excellence to the Campaign for College Opportunity, an organization that works to ensure all Californians have an equal opportunity to attend and succeed in college to build a vibrant workforce, economy, and democracy. This award recognizes the Campaign for College Opportunity for collaborating with NCAN-member uAspire to ensure that the organizations’ students get the support they need to begin and complete a two- or four-year degree. After evolving from a small nonprofit organization, the Campaign has become California’s most influential higher education research, policy, and advocacy organization that strengthens the state’s public colleges and universities and ensures more Black, Latino/a, and low-income students succeed in college.

We are so proud to have had the Awards of Excellence winners accept their awards at #NCAN2023 where we gathered with several organizations and higher education leaders from across the nation to network, learn, share knowledge, and celebrate members from across the field. We look forward seeing all the accomplishments next year’s award winners will share, see you next year at #NCAN2024!
