Joy KingChief Talent, Strategy, and Operations OfficerPronouns: She/Her/Hers Joy King joined the National College Attainment Network (NCAN) in June 2023. As Chief Talent, Strategy, and Operations Officer, she is responsible for growing and sustaining NCAN's talented team of humans in service of the organization's mission and values. In addition to overseeing the implementation of a strategic plan that prioritizes the organization's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, King is the oil that keeps the organization's general operations and infrastructure healthy and compliant to ensure NCAN remains a strong and consistent network in the postsecondary attainment field. Throughout her career, King has served as a subject matter expert and change advocate to initiatives focused on diversity, equity, and accountability. She thrives in highly visible roles that allow her to connect with her clients and provide a seamless experience during major organizational and personal transformations. King has committed herself to doing anti-racist work ensuring that systemically minoritized groups have access to spaces and experiences that are safe and inclusive, have opportunities that propel them and their communities forward financially, and ultimately shift the trajectory of generations to come. Regardless of the work setting, King has consistently been driven by her passion for ensuring that all people enjoy basic human rights – all in an effort to dismantle inequitable systems and create pathways to success. King is currently the founder and CEO of two companies: Lifestyles by Joy, a project management firm, and Suite Life Business Coaching. In addition to running her own companies, she most recently served as the Program Operations Lead at Shopify, responsible for the overall strategic, effective, and efficient operation of their Early Talent Headquarters team to attract, hire, and develop a diverse community of emerging talent by designing and delivering innovative work-integrated learning programs to accelerate participants' long-term career impact. King has extensive board and community leadership background as Board Chair and Board Vice Chair to two public charter schools and member of multiple national associations. She is also currently Board Chair of the Trauma-Conscious Equity Foundation. King was a featured speaker at the STEMconnector Annual Summit, a roundtable cyber panelist at the CityLab Annual Conference, and served on a host of other workforce development, cyber security, and education panels. She has also had a number of speaking and keynote engagements. Notably, she was featured in a Roadtrip Nation segment on PBS. A Chicago native, King holds a BA in Secondary Education from DePaul University, MA in Educational Administration with an administrative certificate from Governors State University, and is a certified Organizational Development professional. In her spare time, King enjoys traveling, napping, spending quality time with her family, and brunching with friends. Fun facts: She speaks Japanese and is classically trained in ballet. |
