A new program evaluation of Bottom Line, a National College Attainment Network (NCAN) member, finds substantial and significant boosts to degree attainment among low-income students served. Two hallmarks of the Bottom Line program are intensive postsecondary advising beginning at the end of junior year and an emphasis on building application lists with institutions that are both affordable and offer completion rates that are relatively higher than their peers.

Join Drs. Andrew Barr and Ben Castleman, the authors of this exciting new research, and Steve Colón, CEO of Bottom Line and former chair of NCAN’s Board of Directors, to learn more about the paper’s findings and discuss what other college access programs can adopt or adapt from them.

Presenters:

  • Dr. Ben Castleman, Professor of Public Policy and Education, University of Virginia
  • Dr. Andrew C. Barr, Professor of Economics, Texas A&M University
  • Steve Colón, Chief Executive Officer, Bottom Line

Price:

  • Members: Free

This event recording will be available to NCAN members only. Closed captioning is available through Zoom for all NCAN webinars and peer exchanges. Please reach out to elearning@ncan.org with additional questions.

New initiative on the impact of advising on economic mobility and prosperity

During the webinar Dr. Barr and Dr. Castleman will also share information about a new initiative using federal data to study the impact of college advising on long-term economic mobility and prosperity, including measures of individuals' earnings, personal finance, housing, and social safety net participation. The initiative focuses on advising organizations that have participated in a rigorous evaluation which has demonstrated positive impacts on college participation and attainment.
