2019 NCAN Success Gallery

Are you helping your students in ways that go beyond college advising or honing academic skills?

Is the cultivation of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) skills a component of your program or organization?

Have you developed an innovative approach to integrating behavioral or non-cognitive skill development into your work?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, NCAN invites you to submit an application to showcase your efforts at the Success Gallery and reception, Fueling Social and Emotional Learning Skills. Every year at the NCAN conference, the Success Gallery allows member organizations to highlight an aspect of their work from which others can learn. This year’s Success Gallery will take place on Monday, Sept. 16, from 5:15 to 6:45 pm during the 2019 NCAN National Conference, Racing Toward Postsecondary in Indianapolis.

The Success Gallery is made possible by generous support from The ACT Center for Equity in Learning.

Over the last decade, SEL has gained greater attention from educators, employers, and policymakers who recognize not only that behavioral and navigational skills are important to student success, but that they can be taught and measured. ACT groups SEL into six themes:

  • Grit
  • Teamwork
  • Resilience
  • Curiosity
  • Leadership
  • School climate

NCAN members nurture these skills in many ways through activities such as college application portfolio support, career exploration, peer mentoring, and mock job interviews. We strongly encourage NCAN member organizations to submit an application to share their strategies and tools for building and fostering SEL competencies, as well as the outcomes and benefits gained by students and the community.

Please apply now to share your most effective work with your access and success colleagues!

To learn more about SEL, read ACT’s 2017 report, The Importance of Behavioral Skills and Navigation Factors for Education and Work Success.

Please note: Participating in the Fueling Social and Emotional Learning Skills Success Gallery is not the same as participating in the conference exhibit hall. There are no fees associated with displaying your work in the Success Gallery. Organizations that wish to purchase an exhibitor table should contact Crystal Courtney at courtneyc@collegeaccess.org.
