Earlier this month, the National College Attainment Network (NCAN) hosted “Exploring the Clearinghouse’s High School Benchmarks Report 2023,” a webinar focusing on the findings of the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) Research Center’s most recent report.

As NCAN previously reported, the high school class of 2022 generally enrolled in college at higher rates than the class of 2021, but outcomes were still very inequitable according to high school income levels and demographic composition.

On November 9, NCAN convened the NSC Research Center’s Executive Director (and member of NCAN’s Board of Directors) Dr. Doug Shapiro to highlight the report’s findings.

A panel discussion followed, hosted by The Hechinger Report’s Olivia Sanchez. Esteemed panelists included:

Beyond this webinar, the NSC also recently announced that the “effective date” for the Fall 2023 semester was November 20.

The three “effective dates”  each year are “snapshots” of the postsecondary enrollment and degree data against which all StudentTracker for High Schools queries are run. As the NSC notes, “StudentTracker for High Schools queries are always queried against the previous or most recent effective date. For example, a Graduates or Request file submitted on August 1 would be queried against the previous April effective date. A Graduates or Request file submitted on September 1 would be queried against the previous August effective date.”

Subscribers with StudentTracker for High Schools subscriptions will see outcome reports generated over the next several weeks for subscriptions that are current and have submitted at least one year of high school graduation student data.

For subscribers with StudentTracker for Outreach or StudentTracker for Educational Organizations plans, the announcement of the effective date indicates that it’s a good time to run your fall 2023 enrollment queries.

The NSC’s StudentTracker suite of services allows K-12 districts and schools and college access programs and other educational organizations to obtain their student-level postsecondary outcomes data, for a fee. The StudentTracker queries the NSC’s extensive database of postsecondary enrollments and completions and offers insight into students’ postsecondary pathways.
