An updated National College Attainment Network (NCAN) guide outlines four key steps for district and school leaders, school counselors, teachers, and community partners to take to keep seniors on track for a postsecondary pathway. “4 for Their Future” offers approaches for:

  1. Understanding students’ postsecondary intentions and needs through survey data
  2. Obtaining and analyzing postsecondary outcomes data from the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC)
  3. Increasing access to financial aid by improving Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) completion rates
  4. Supporting students to matriculate successfully by combating summer melt

Way back in September 2020, staring down a 2020-21 academic year that promised to be uncharted territory for schools and students, NCAN published “4 for the Fall,” and the “4 for the Future” brief updates that work.

Each section of the guide includes questions stakeholders should ask and a curated slate of related resources.

The guide is the latest in a series of K-12-focused resources from NCAN and our partners. We also recently released, along with 16 other leading national college access organizations, a new District Framework for Enabling Postsecondary Success and updated our College & Career Readiness Calendar for High Schools.

NCAN’s big ask for members, no matter your organization type, is to share these resources with your district and school partners and use them to start or continue a conversation about college and career readiness. Want to have that conversation with us or suggest approaches, resources, or training that would be helpful for your work? We’d love to hear from you; reach out to me at debaunb@ncan.org.
