This April, The Whole Team Gets on the Field
From April 17-21, NCAN will host its 2023 Spring Training, "Field a Full Team: How Everyone in K-12 Can Support Students' College and Career Plans," a week of programming affirming that everyone in a school has a role
to play in students’ college and career readiness.
Students’ postsecondary pathways aren’t just a
school counselor’s focus, or a teacher’s focus, or a principal’s focus. Every caring adult in a school has a role to play, alongside external partners, parents, and students themselves.
Every day during this week, NCAN will host a webinar related to K-12 college and career readiness programming. We'll also feature related content in our members-only Success Digest newsletter, blog, and social media channels.
All "Field a Full Team" webinars will be open and free of charge to members and non-members alike!
Webinar Lineup:
Monday, April 17, 2-3pm EST
"Engaging All Staff in CCR Student Supports"
College and career readiness too often falls squarely on the shoulders of a handful of district or school staff. But everyone, and we mean everyone, can support a student in finding their next, best pathway following high school graduation or encourage
them to stay on that pathway when they face obstacles. This panel will convene practitioners from districts and schools who engage a variety of stakeholders in the work of college and career readiness, from teachers to support staff to community-based
organizations to parents, there is key messaging and information that caring adults need to have at their disposal. After all, we never know where a student is going to make a meaningful connection that can change their postsecondary trajectory.
Presenters:
- Kimberly Hanauer, UnlockED
- Anthony Cook, Osceola County School District
- Autumn Boyd, Aldine ISD

"Building a College and Career Readiness Team and Monitoring the Work"
Teamwork, as they say, makes the dream work. Making meaningful progress on college and career readiness requires having the right people and voices in the room to align on and drive the work forward. But what does the right district- or school-level team
look like? Once assembled, how do they take stock of where the district school is with regard to strengths and opportunities in CCR practices, policies, knowledge, and resources?
Join OneGoal for a dive into their district- and school-level postsecondary readiness rubrics and a discussion of how they’re putting this tool to use in the field. OneGoal will be joined by Dr. Yolanda Johnson from Springfield (MA) Public Schools, who
will share her own experiences about bringing together teams to coordinate around college and career readiness.

"Have a Plan: Implementing a College and Career Readiness Curriculum"
States are working harder than ever to ease and improve their students’ postsecondary transitions to college and career. Illinois’ Postsecondary and Career Expectations (PaCE) Framework is an effort that “was developed to provide guidance on what types of experiences and information a student should have in order to make the most informed decisions about college and career planning, beginning in 8th grade and continuing through high
school.”
The PaCE Framework is a model other districts, schools (and states!) might consider for themselves.
Join professional implementers from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission for a walkthrough of how to incorporate a grade-by-grade college and career readiness framework in your district or school. This webinar will offer advice, considerations,
and pitfalls to try to avoid in coordinating a plan that helps all students get the knowledge and experience they need.

"Many Paths to Success: Navigating Among Students' College and Career Choice"
The idea that “college” means a four-year bachelor’s pathway is passé. Today’s students are considering a variety of pathways after college, and often need assistance in understanding which one best meets their aptitudes and aspirations. As students’ understanding of pathways evolves, so too must our advising. Join this webinar’s expert panel as they detail how they help students to understand their full range of options while encouraging them toward those that will lead most often to a successful outcome.

"Serving and Supporting Undocumented Students"
Candy Marshall, President of TheDream.US, a national scholarship program for Dreamers, and NCAN board member will speak to the challenges facing Dreamers and undocumented students more broadly in a post-pandemic, post-DACA world. Marshall will:
- Dispel myths/disbeliefs about potential college and career paths for undocumented students
- Describe the current status of DACA and its implications for students
- Highlight and explore ways for organizations and colleges to support these students on college and/or career pathways
The presentation will also explore how providing undocumented students with paid college internships and fellowships and with micro-internships will help them (1) earn money to pay for college; (2) build and demonstrate necessary skills to launch
entrepreneurial careers; (3) explore a variety of career paths; and (4) build the networks needed for launching their careers in a post-pandemic world.
